3c Straightening

A very common problem in photographs is that the camera was held at an angle when the picture was taken, so that lines that should be horizontal such as the horizon on the ocean end up sloping. Paint Shop Pro has a simple tool for straightening pictures, the straightening tool (you may find this hidden under the Deform tool ). I've included this on this page because straightening a picture is usually accompanied by cropping it - I suggest you turn on this option once you have selected the tool. The following photo, taken in Tahiti, is a case in point...

When you choose the straightening tool, a straightening line appears on the picture - drag the ends of the line until it exactly follows the horizon then simply double-click the picture to finish. Since you selected 'crop image' some of the image has been trimmed in order not to leave any blank areas in the corners. Save your work.

Another way to rotate images is to use Image > Rotate... but this is really only useful if you know exactly how many degrees you want to rotate the image (e.g. 90° clockwise).
