3d Perspective
Up

Which of these three images do you prefer?

Many (most?) people would prefer the second (you are free to disagree, of course!). The problem with the first picture is the sides of the building appear to lean inwards - they are vertical in real life but not vertical in the photo. This kind of distortion happens every time you tip a camera back to photograph a building from ground level. Paint Shop Pro has a 'perspective correction' tool to fix this. The last photo has been 'fixed' for both the vertical and horizontal lines on the building, but this is too much correction and now the picture looks rather unreal.

Note that although I explain how to modify the 'blue building' image you are NOT expected to work with this image yourself but rather with the photo at the bottom of this page.

To fix the vertical lines only, as in the second image above, first select the perspective correction tool (it's in the second group of tools). Turn on the 'crop image' tool option so that you are not left with coloured shapes in the corners of the image, then HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY and drag the corner handles until they are positioned as shown below, on the sides of the building. The effect of holding down the shift key is to allow the handles to be moved either horizontally OR vertically but not both.

Then double-click anywhere in the picture to finish.

To correct both horizontal and vertical lines, starting with the uncorrected picture, do NOT hold down the shift key and position the handles as shown below, in the corners of what we know is a true rectangle on the real building.

Now it's your turn. Download the following photo into PSP and then correct first to get 'vertical verticals' (save your image) and then, starting from the original image, correct the front side of the building for both horizontal and vertical lines. Save this image also.
