In the last lesson we assembled three silent video clips into a movie that
included a transition effect. In this lesson we will learn how to add and/or
modify sounds.
Let's add some music to our movie. Double-click the empty part of the project
window and then add the file Music.aif to the project - you will find the file
in the same 'Tour' folder that you got the other files from. Double-click the
speaker symbol or drag the name of the file into the source view of the monitor
window, then click the play button or press the space bar to listen to the sound
(you'll need to borrow headphones if you are working in the CIV computer rooms).
Now drag the file from the project window into audio track 1, making sure that
it is slid as far as possible to the left of this track. Make the target view or
the timeline active then press the space bar to play the movie with sound.
You'll notice that the sound continues long after the movie has finished. Use
the previous edit/next edit buttons
to locate
the frame where the FastSlow clip ends, then choose Edit>Razor at Edit
Line. Note that what used to be a single audio clip has now been split into
two audio clips. Make sure the selection tool
is selected then click the second audio clip and press the delete key to delete
it. Now when you play the movie you will find that the music ends just as the
video ends (though it may not sound that great).
By the way, you may have noticed that there are other razor options - you can
choose the razor tool
or the multiple
razor tool
(press the tool icon and drag to switch between these two
tools). The
razor tool splits a single clip (or a linked pair of video and audio
clips) while the multiple
razor tool splits all the tracks that appear in the clicked frame. However, if
it is important to use the razor at a precise point in the timeline then I
recommend the menu item Razor at Edit Line since this makes it easier to
locate the desired point.
Now let's make the music fade away at the end. Click the triangle to the left
of the title of the Audio 1 track. This will open up a panel showing how the
audio
volume (the 'gain level') changes with time. Click the red fader line under the 10 second
mark to insert a 'handle' that breaks the red line into two sections and then drag the red
handle at
the end of the audio track down to the bottom. Play the movie again and you
should find that the music fades away during the last couple of seconds. Well
done!
